A severe public emergency -- whether caused by a natural disaster, an epidemic or terrorist event – may result in a critical failure of the pharmaceutical supply chain.  Victims, patients who depend on medicines, first-responders and healthcare professionals all need to know that  an effort to restore the prescription medicine supply chain quickly and efficiently  is in place . Rx Response exists to help ensure that prescription medicines can get to those who need them in the aftermath of a severe public health emergency.

Specifically, Rx Response represents an unprecedented collaboration between PhRMA and members of the U.S. private-sector pharmaceutical supply system and the American Red Cross to  help ensure that patients whose health is threatened in a severe public emergency have access to the medicines they need.  Clear communication and the availability of reliable information is critical in the aftermath of a severe disaster or public health emergency. Rx Response provides an information-sharing and problem-solving forum for the private pharmaceutical supply system, hospitals, disaster relief agencies and government. Rx Response is a unique effort that brings together the parties responsible for the prescription medicine supply chain to safeguard supply system resilience in a crisis through  appropriate information sharing and communications.
