The Fight Against TB

The Fight Against TB

This guest post comes from Manos Perros, head of the AstraZeneca Infection Innovative Medicines Unit.

At the PhRMA annual meeting this week, leaders from across the industry will highlight the power of partnerships and the impact of innovation on patients.

One area in which partnerships and innovation are making incredible progress is in the fight against TB.

The World Health Organization recently recognized "World TB Day" to raise awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and efforts to eliminate the disease. One-third of the world's population is currently infected with TB and new treatment options are desperately needed.

Scientists in the biopharma industry are partnering across companies, academia and patient organizations to find new TB medicines. Four scientists from my company have sent "Letters from the Lab" to explain the specific research they're conducting at our labs in Boston and Bangalore and to highlight the importance of partnerships we're engaged in.

Take a minute to get an inside look at what is like to be an infectious disease scientist in the pharmaceutical industry and watch a brief video from me about the progress we are making.
