I want to recommend PhRMA President John Castellani's op/ed on the global battle against HIV/AIDS
in today's The Hill
newspaper. The upshot is the work being done by biopharmaceutical research companies around the world to help improve global access to medicines to fight HIV/AIDS. In part, Mr. Castellani writes:
"Our scientists are hard at work in labs each day to develop the next revolutionary treatment that may save patients' lives. But we must all recognize that the problem with fighting these brutal diseases in developing countries is not simply a lack of accessible treatment. Insufficient infrastructure - weak healthcare systems, lack of transportation, lack of trained healthcare personnel, etc. - is an enormous roadblock to any significant progress."
