Director of State Advocacy - Policy

Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America’s (PhRMA’s) State Advocacy-Policy team is seeking a strong and influential team player with excellent communication and relationship building skills for a Director position.

The Director for State Advocacy and Policy is responsible for:

  • Analyzing proposed state legislation and regulations;
  • Synthesizing and developing concise materials, policy statements and talking points for various audiences;
  • Conveying the impact and effect of legislative and regulatory matters via testimony before state legislative committees;
  • Providing policy guidance and counsel to PhRMA field staff and taskforce members concerning policy issues;
  • Building relationships with and providing education to national groups;
  • Representing PhRMA policy positions at various third party and state agency meetings; and
  • Serving as the point person for the State Advocacy-Policy team on certain states and health care related issues.

We are seeking a strong advocate for the pharmaceutical industry who is passionate about the health policy challenges we face today.  Critical to the role is the ability to think and mobilize quickly, build relationships and consensus, communicate in a concise and convincing manner, demonstrate both flexibility and independence, and possess the energy and drive to succeed.

Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, public health/health policy or other relevant field is required; Master’s degree is preferred.  5-8 years of professional experience required as is experience with Medicaid.  Travel is required for this role – during certain periods travel can equal 20-30% of the time.
