Partnership for Prescription Assistance Ready to Help Storm Victims Across the South

Washington, D.C. (May 3, 2011) —The Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA) is helping uninsured and financially struggling storm victims across the South. A disaster relief form is now available for patients who have been affected by the recent tornadoes and flooding to help expedite their application for prescription medicine assistance. The PPA is sponsored by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

“We’ve all been moved by scenes of the terrible devastation across the South,” said PhRMA president and CEO John J. Castellani. “Fortunately, the PPA can help storm victims to connect with patient assistance programs for help getting the medicines they need.”

Patients, caregivers and healthcare providers can contact the PPA and link to the disaster relief form at www.PPARX.org or by calling toll-free 1-888-477-2669. PPA is a coalition of more than 1,500 national, state and local partners working with America’s biopharmaceutical companies to connect uninsured and financially struggling patients to patient assistance programs that provide access to prescription medicines for free or nearly free.

Since its inception just over six years ago, the PPA has helped more than 6.8 million Americans get access to more than 475 state, local and national patient assistance programs. Participating programs provide over 2,500 brand-name and generic medicines. PPA has also referred more than 302,000 patients to nearly 16,000 free community clinics across the country.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, which are devoted to inventing medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives. PhRMA companies are leading the way in the search for new cures. PhRMA members alone invested an estimated $49.4 billion in 2010 in discovering and developing new medicines. Industry-wide research and investment reached a record $67.4 billion in 2010.
