PhRMA Statement on HELP Committee Health Reform Vote

Washington, D.C. (July 15, 2009) — Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) President and CEO Billy Tauzin issued the following statement regarding the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee’s vote in favor of the “Quality, Affordable Health Coverage for All Americans” bill:

“Senate HELP Committee passage of the ‘Quality, Affordable Health Coverage for All Americans’ bill marks an important step toward achieving comprehensive health care reform. We applaud members of the committee for their commitment to America’s patients, who deserve access to high-quality, affordable health care.

“The committee is also to be commended for assuring that the bill, in addition to providing increased patient access to needed care, also maintains the incentives for innovation that leads to the discovery and development of tomorrow’s novel new medicines.

“The road toward comprehensive health reform continues to stretch out before us. We look forward to continuing our collaborative work toward accomplishing meaningful reform this year.”
