PhRMA Hosting Webinar Highlighting New Exciting Medicines in the Biopharmaceutical Pipeline

Save the Date: January 17, 12pmOver the last year, I have read in various publications that the biopharmaceutical pipeline is drying up and the industry I represent isn't as innovative as it used to be.

My response has always been simple: This couldn't be further from the truth.

As my colleague Stephanie pointed out earlier this week on the Catalyst, the Food and Drug Administration approved 39 new medicines in 2012, the highest approval rate in 16 years. Forty-seven percent of the new medicines that were approved are first-in-class, which means that many patients with serious unmet medical needs can now have access to life-enhancing and life-saving treatments. The 2012 numbers also followed a similarly strong performance in 2011.

But this alone doesn't tell the whole story of the hope that medicines provide for patients.

Next Thursday, PhRMA will be hosting a webinar to unveil key findings in a new report about exciting new medicines in the biopharmaceutical pipeline. While I can't give any more details just yet, I can tell you that the data may be surprising to some.

And importantly, biopharmaceutical scientists working on these potential new medicines are holding out hope that one day these medicines will make it to the millions of patients who are suffering from debilitating and even deadly diseases.

We encourage you all to watch the webinar, which will be aired in real-time.

Check out the save-the-date for more details.
