Larry Hausner, MBA
CEO, American Diabetes Association,

Larry Hausner is Chief Executive Officer of the American Diabetes Association, the nation’s largest voluntary health organization leading the fight to Stop Diabetes®.

Hausner has been with the Association since October 2007, bringing more than 20 years of extensive management experience in nonprofits, coupled with a strong understanding of mission-driven organizations.

His focus on mission resulted not only in the American Diabetes Association's renewed commitment to funding research, but also led to a greater emphasis on advocacy efforts, local programs, education initiatives and prevention programs to both improve the quality of life for those living with diabetes and for those at risk of getting this disease.

Hausner served as Chairperson of the National Health Council (NHC) in 2012, and is a recent Co-Chair of the Centers for Public Health Roundtable. He was a member of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) strategic planning strategy group as well.  He recently served on the U.S. delegation to the United Nations High Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases.  He also received the 2011 VIDA National Hispanic Health Leadership Award for his leadership in expanding the reach of Association services in Hispanic communities and in 2010 received the Impact Award from the Invisible Disabilities Association for leading the charge in helping people living with diabetes through local and national education, research and support.

Before joining the American Diabetes Association, Hausner served as Chief Operating Officer for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where he had oversight and management of revenue generation, finance and budget, information technology, patient services, public policy, marketing and communications, human resources, and field management.  Revenues for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society grew under his leadership from $165 million to more than $270 million.

In his nonprofit experiences before Leukemia, Hausner was employed by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for 15 years, where he rose to the position of Chief of Staff.

Hausner earned a master’s degree in marketing management from the University of Rhode Island.  He also holds a bachelor of science degree in marketing with a minor in accounting from the same university.  In addition, he studied performance management systems and governance as leadership at Harvard University, strategic planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and nonprofit strategic planning at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
