Douglas Peddicord, Ph.D., Executive Director, Association of Clinical Research Organizations

With policy expertise in the conduct and regulatory oversight of clinical trials, Dr. Peddicord serves as Executive Director of the Association of Clinical Research Organizations (ACRO).  Founded in 2002 by leading clinical research organizations that provide a wide range of research and development support services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies, ACRO works to provide a heightened awareness of the critical role that CROs play in the development of new drugs, new devices, and new treatments.  Dr. Peddicord speaks frequently on the subject of the particular role of the CRO (along with the sponsor, investigator, IRB, and regulator) in the ‘system’ that provides for the protection of human research participants, as well as on broader issues relating to the conduct of clinical research, including health information privacy, financial conflicts of interest, and the globalization of clinical trials.  A frequent interviewee and blogger on health policy issues, his most recent peer-reviewed publication was A Proposal To Protect Privacy Of Health Information While Accelerating Comparative Effectiveness Research which appeared in the November 2010 issue of Health Affairs.
