Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2012)-- Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) Senior Vice President Matthew Bennett issued the following statement today on Rx Response activation in the wake of Hurricane Sandy:
“Yesterday’s activation of the Rx Response’s program is a critical part of helping the public and communities recover in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Rx Response has now activated its Pharmacy Status Reporting Tool in 11 states and the District of Columbia. Rx Response – created by PhRMA and other stakeholders in the pharmaceutical supply chain -- is providing emergency managers and the public with essential information on open pharmacies in storm-affected areas.
“The states affected are: Connecticut; Delaware;; Maryland; New Jersey; New York; North Carolina; Ohio; Pennsylvania; Rhode Island; Virginia; West Virginia; and the District of Columbia. The Pharmacy Status Reporting tool can be found at: http://www.rxresponse.org/PharmacyStatus/Pages/default.aspx.
“Making sure that medicines are available is critically important, especially in an emergency situation when regular pharmacies may be closed and other essential services disrupted. Rx Response is there to help patients find open pharmacies and get the medicines they need.
“In addition to the Pharmacy Status Reporting Tool, Rx Response Public Resources also provides valuable on-going storm preparedness information including a down-loadable medication card for listing prescription medicines that may be needed in case of evacuation. The medication card can be found at: http://www.rxresponse.org/PharmacyStatus/Pages/default.aspx
“Rx Response was created by PhRMA and other stakeholders in the pharmaceutical supply chain as a result of Hurricane Katrina. It is a single point of contact for the entire biopharmaceutical supply system and relies on a robust network that allows federal and state emergency management officials to communicate with Rx Response regarding pharmaceutical needs and other issues that may impact the supply system. The communications are actively monitored by all segments of the pharmaceutical supply system to ensure the fastest possible resolutions.”
