Inequities in health status and outcomes among racial and ethnic groups often are rooted in community-level factors. Recognizing that each community faces unique barriers, PhRMA established the Collaborative Actions to Reach Equity (CAREs) grant program in April 2020. To date, awards have supported research and efforts to advance equity across the country - and 2021 grantees have been finalized.

PhRMA filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland asserting that the 340B Drug Pricing Program: Administrative Dispute Resolution Regulation is arbitrary and capricious, not the product of reasoned decision-making and unconstitutional.

Closing gaps in the availability of race and ethnicity data is crucial to reducing disparities in health outcomes. Once systemic racism is recognized and highlighted as both the root cause of racial and ethnic health disparities and the reason there is a lack of urgency to do everything possible to eradicate them, efforts around data collection can be refocused and actionable solutions can be implemented throughout the health system.
