Special Olympics of DC Summer Games

Recently PhRMA staff volunteered at the Special Olympics of DC (SODC) Summer Games. And as excited as the SODC was regarding our participation, my colleagues were even more thrilled to be there. This was PhRMA's first time being involved with the games and it was such an amazing experience. You can hear from a few of my colleagues below.

"It was a reminder that no matter who you are, life can be fun and exciting. It reminds me to get back to that basic fun and joy in life and make sure I keep helping other people find it too. I was proud to be out there with the rest of the PhRMA staff, and appreciate that our organization made it a priority to get as many of us out there as possible." - Jen

"There is one particular word that comes to mind in reflecting on our participation in the DC Special Olympics...proud. Proud to be a part of Team PhRMA - an organization that is so committed to community service; proud of the athletes - their amazing attitudes, enthusiasm, spirit and strength; proud of all our staff - the encouragement, compassion, good cheer and kindness exhibited by all. It was a personally rewarding and very special day indeed." - Kimberly

"Even the hardest of hearts can be melted by volunteering for Special Olympics. Being on the field with incredible athletes and watching their faces as they cross the finish line and again when they get their awards can truly humbling. You quickly realize how special life is. I can't wait to do it again." - Ed

It was an incredible experience for us, you can see for yourself in the video.

Special Olympics is about transforming lives, including your own. It's about a spirit of giving and teamwork. It's about making your community and neighborhood a more welcoming and accepting place for people of all abilities. It's also about creating lifelong friendships and finding a new way of thinking about others. So get involved.
