What to Watch: NPC Webinar on Comparative Effectiveness

03.18.13 | By Karl Uhlendorf

Last year, the National Pharmaceutical Council (NPC) released a survey of health care stakeholders on comparative effectiveness research (CER). The survey underscored the importance of PhRMA's leadership in supporting the creation of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and the importance of our sector's continued championing of high-quality, patient-centered CER - both PhRMA's proactive policy and advocacy work and NPC's research and analysis.

Last year's survey showed only 30 percent of respondents believe CER would improve health care decision making within the next year, but more than nine out of every 10 respondents expected it to have a favorable impact within the next five years.

Have stakeholder perspectives changed since that time?

We'll soon find out. NPC is hosting a webinar [register here] on Tuesday, March 19 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to unveil its third annual stakeholder survey on CER and the environment for health care decision making. As PCORI gets closer to full implementation of its CER agenda, these public perceptions will take on even greater importance.

NPC surveyed stakeholders who play a key role in making health care decisions, including HR specialists, key government personnel, researchers, insurers and employers, among others, to gauge their understanding and expectations of CER.

It matters what they think, because they will be the main stakeholders defining the conduct and use of CER in the future, and therefore driving public perception and support.
