I recently joined POLITICO’s 2024 Health Care Summit for a panel discussion alongside Joanne Pike, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association and Traylor Rains, State Medicaid Director of the Oklahoma Health Care Authority. We discussed the importance of putting patients first, examined policies that impact patients and shared ideas about what can be done to lower health care costs across the system.
Here are three highlights from the conversation:
1. The government price-setting policies outlined in the Inflation Reduction Act pose a significant threat to the continued development of small molecule mediciness.
2. The unchecked power held by middlemen known as pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) within the health care system threatens patient access and affordability.
3. Using medicines to prevent disease can lower costs for patients and the health care system.
