Manager – Public Affairs

Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is seeking a manager to join its public affairs team to support the development, execution and tracking of public affairs and communications strategies for key PhRMA advocacy priorities. The manager will report to a deputy vice president on the public affairs team and work closely with PhRMA staff, PhRMA member companies, the media and external consultants.

Responsibilities

The manager will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Develop, review and edit blog posts, social media content, pre-event briefings, reports and presentations, among other materials
  • Serve as a liaison, both within the department and with other departments, to help coordinate efforts among all PhRMA colleagues on communications activities in support of organization’s advocacy goals/objectives
  • Collaborate with the policy department on activities related to cost and value of medicines, value-driven health care and medication adherence, including providing communications and messaging support for report rollouts and rapid response to media requests
  • Create agendas, presentation materials and summary/compilation reports
  • Staff department activities, including press events, conferences and announcements

This candidate should have a strong team orientation, excellent interpersonal and written communications skills and the desire to learn and grow with the broader public affairs teams. 

Professional Experience/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with external constituencies
  • Ability to balance the needs of various internal and external parties with flexibility and a steady temperament
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills and the ability to write for disparate audiences and channels (i.e., traditional and social) both strategically and creatively
  • Commitment to exceptional work-product quality
  • Exceptional organizational and project-management skills
  • Passion, motivation, energy and curiosity to stay abreast of current industry trends

Preferred Experience / Requirements

  • Health policy experience and experience in public relations, media relations, trade association or Capitol Hill experience preferred
