Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is seeking an experienced leader in international regulatory policy for its Science and Regulatory Advocacy (SRA) team. The Deputy Vice President is responsible for providing strategic direction and ensuring the successful execution of PhRMA’s global regulatory priorities and will foster relationships with key stakeholders in industry and the US/international regulatory community.
This position will report into the Executive Vice President of the department and be a member of the SRA leadership team. They will also work closely with colleagues in PhRMA’s International, Public Affairs, Policy & Research, and Law departments.
The Deputy Vice President (DVP)’s specific responsibilities include:
- Advance PhRMA’s international regulatory policy strategies for emerging markets in China, APEC, and the America’s.
- Develop relationships with regulatory bodies in emerging markets to drive global industry priorities and increase regulatory capacity
- Partner closely with PhRMA International Advocacy staff to ensure alignment and optimize resources/relationships in emerging markets.
- Liaise with various regulatory agencies and other organizations e.g. EFPIA, IFPIA, and JPMA
- Provide oversight and mentor SRA staff lead on the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) which includes but is not limited to:
- Providing strategic thought partnership to ICH lead
- Supporting the coordination of the bi-annual convening of management committee members and;
- Assisting with the execution of the ICH priorities and initiatives.
Key Success Factors
The ideal candidate for this role will think strategically, demonstrate a long-term policy vision and execute/implement projects. Critical to the success of this role is the ability to engage executive level constituents, manage multiple projects across a wide range of internal and third party stakeholder groups, demonstrate strong relationship building and analytical skills and possess highly developed presentation, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
- Master’s degree in life sciences, biomedical/ biopharmaceutical sciences, health policy/ public health or similar discipline;
- 7-10 years of directly-related work experience in international regulatory policy, particularly with China; must be seen as a trusted partner with Chinese regulatory authorities;
- International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) experience
- Ability to develop strong relationships with PhRMA member companies, and align numerous stakeholders;
- Mentorship and management skills;
- Strong relationship building skills, professional presence and diplomacy;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent analytical strategic thinking skills.
- Strong Emotional Intelligence;
- Ability to travel 20% of the time.
Pharmaceutical industry and/or experience in a regulatory agency;
Experience in the Americas helpful;
PhD or other advanced degree (PharmD, JD)
