Washington, DC – The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) announced today that Ieva M. Augstums will join the organization as Deputy Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs, effective October 1, 2014.
Augstums will be responsible for developing and executing PR campaigns, overseeing paid media activities, leading the planning and promotion of key annual events, and supervising message research and public polling activities. She will be an important part of the leadership team in the communications department, helping to craft and drive the overall communications strategy for the association. She will report to Robert Zirkelbach, Senior Vice President of Communications.
“We are thrilled to have Ieva join our team here at PhRMA. Her wealth of experience in journalism and strategic communications will be a great asset to the team and enable her to provide fresh perspective to PhRMA’s communications and outreach activities,” says Zirkelbach.
Augstums comes to PhRMA from Purple Strategies, LLC, where she oversaw strategic communications campaigns and brand consulting. Prior to joining Purple Strategies, Augstums worked as a communications director for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA). Before that, she spent 10 years as a journalist, writing for the Dallas Morning News, and as a financial writer for the Associated Press.
“I am excited, and deeply honored, to be joining the team at PhRMA. PhRMA is all about innovations and discoveries that improve and extend the lives of people all over the world, and I can’t think of anything more rewarding to help communicate than that,” says Augstums.
