PhRMA Statement on State of the Union
Washington, D.C. (January 24, 2012) — Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) President and CEO John J. Castellani released the following statement in response to the President's State of the Union address:
“President Obama’s address comes at a time when the country’s biopharmaceutical research sector is bringing new treatment options to patients, supporting high-value American jobs and helping strengthen local and national economies. Continued progress, however, requires an environment that embraces innovation.
“We believe that medical innovation specifically will continue to play a crucial role in advancing patient health and spurring economic growth in the U.S. Bolstering American industry and creating more jobs are goals we all share. We look forward to policies that will support one of the most innovative sectors of our economy – and one that is producing the highest value jobs.
“We will continue to work with the Administration and members of Congress, on both sides of the aisle, on bipartisan solutions that can help spur growth in the U.S. economy, preserve timely patient access to new medicines, maintain market-based competition and foster future development of life-enhancing and life-saving treatments.”
