Marv Shepherd, PhD, president of the Partnership for Safe Medicines, comments on Interchange 2012.

Counterfeit medicines in the world's drug supply chain pose a significant threat to millions of patients worldwide. For the past three years, the Partnership for Safe Medicines (PSM) has been on the front lines on this issue and has worked to bring together stakeholders to help address it head on.

On Friday, PSM will host Interchange 2012, which will include policymakers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, patient advocates, law enforcement, healthcare professionals and anti-counterfeiting organizations, all of whom are playing a role this effort. FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg will give the keynote speech beginning at 3 p.m. and PhRMA president and CEO John Castellani will participate in a panel discussion at 1:30 p.m. with Ralph Neas, president & CEO of the Generic Pharmaceutical Association. In addition, PSM Alsberg Fellow Timothy Mackey will present exciting new findings in his research into illegal online drug sellers. Each speaker will provide a unique perspective on progress made up to this point, as well as the steps that must be taken to ensure medicines remain safe.

Tomorrow's Interchange will be broadcast LIVE on C-SPAN 3. PSM is also making it easy to follow the discussion, so be sure to visit the homepage and weigh in with #PSM2012 or #fakedrugs on Twitter.

The Catalyst team will be sharing updates from the conference at @phrma throughout the day. We look forward to the discussion!
